OFFICIAL: Modric signs one year contract extension

Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has agreed a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid.

The new deal keeps Modric at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 2023.

Modric has become one of the great players of modern times at Santiago Bernabeu, winning five Champions League titles as well as the Ballon d’Or in 2018.

His journey with Madrid looked to be ending this summer as his contract was due to expire – however a 12-month extension will now keep him at the club.

The Croatian will remain at the club until 30 June 2023. After signing the contract, he was presented with a shirt that featured his name and ‘2023’ on the back.

The 36-year-old, who won the Ballon d’Oraward in 2018, joined from Tottenham in 2012 and has since made 436 appearances for Real.

A World Cup runner-up with Croatia in 2018, Modric has won three La Liga titles and five Champions League trophies with Los Blancos.

He made 28 appearances as Carlo Ancelotti’s side secured the league title this season and he played 13 times in Europe as Real claimed their 14th Champions League victory.
