Salah says that he was’shocked’ to come in seventh place in the voting for the Ballon d’Or a year ago.

Mohamed Salah, who plays for Liverpool, expressed his disbelief after finishing seventh in the race for the Ballon d’Or the previous year, but he is optimistic about his chances of winning the award this time around.

In November of 2013, Lionel Messi triumphed in Paris to take home the championship trophy. Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho finished in second and third place, respectively.

Salah says that he was'shocked' to come in seventh place in the voting for the Ballon d'Or a year ago.

Although Salah was taken aback by his ranking, he remains optimistic about becoming the first African player since George Weah to win it later this year. Salah says he was surprised by his ranking.

The Egypt international told L’Equipe: “I want to win it to join George Weah, the only African [in 1995],” the Liverpool forward told L’Equipe. “I want to win it to join George Weah, the only African [in 1995],” the Egypt international said.

“It’s true that the result of my ranking in 2021 took me completely by surprise” (seventh). Even though I played well in the championship game, the loss to Real Madrid will count against me this year. It doesn’t matter how well I played.

However, this does not render useless everything that I have been working toward for the past few weeks. Let us wait for the results of the vote. And if I don’t win the Ballon d’Or in 2022, I promise to do everything in my power to win it the year after that.’

Even though Liverpool were unsuccessful in their attempt to win an unprecedented quadruple and instead settled for success in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, Salah still managed to have another memorable season.

After participating in 51 games across all competitions, the 29-year-old forward scored 31 goals and dished out 16 assists.

The team managed by Jurgen Klopp was defeated in the Champions League final by a goal scored by Vinicius JR in the second half of the game, which took place earlier this month in Paris.

Salah is confident that his team was deserving of the victory, but he was quick to give credit to Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for having a game to remember.

We should have won because we had more opportunities. According to Salah, “Thibaut Courtois made unbelievable saves” despite the fact that he had two or three clear chances.

Because of his ability in this area, Real Madrid decided to sign him on board. It was his turn to sleep.’

It is anticipated that the Balon d’Or award will be presented in the month of October of this year.
