In the competition to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, Arsenal are “facing a challenge from AC Milan.”
According to reports, Serie A champions AC Milan are interested in signing Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio, who on Sunday was being discussed in connection with a possible move to Arsenal.
The player, who is now 26 years old and is about to enter the final year of his contract with Real Madrid, has not yet agreed to terms on a new deal with the club in the capital of Spain.
As a result of the numerous clubs that have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring his services, the team that won the Champions League may decide that the summer is the best time to sell him.
After finishing the last of his Nations League matches with Spain on Sunday, Asensio plans to meet with the chiefs of the Madrid club this week and make a decision about his future at the club. This comes after Asensio finished all of his matches in the Nations League.
In the meantime, it is believed that the Gunners have “contacted Asensio’s representatives” in an effort to negotiate a deal. However, it appears that AC Milan has now also entered the running for the player.
According to Corriere dello Sport, former club legend and current sporting director Paolo Maldini has reportedly already made contact with Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti to inquire about the winger’s situation. Maldini is a part of the Los Blancos management team.
According to the report in the Italian newspaper, Real Madrid has not ruled out the possibility of selling the Spanish international player for a price in the neighborhood of €50 million.
Both the loan of 22-year-old Brahim Diaz and the signing of left back Theo Hernandez were agreements reached between Milan and the Spanish giants during the most recent transfer window, which fostered a positive relationship between the two clubs.
Asensio was away on international duty when he gave the following statement to the press: “I have one year left on my contract.” At this point, I am concentrating on playing for the national team.
“After all of this is over, we will have a conversation. We will have to wait and see what plans I have for the future. I believe that there are options available. There is also the possibility that I could remain here and finish out the remaining time on my contract.
“Rumors are a natural part of the game of football, and this is especially true at Real Madrid.
“Players of a high level are almost always associated with it.” We have no choice but to accept it as part of our lives.
