Cristiano Ronaldo has dropped a bombshell on Manchester United, after reports emerged that he told the club it is time for him to leave.
The 37-year-old Portugal international Ronaldo only made a fairytale return to Old Trafford last summer following very successful spells at Real Madrid and Juventus, but he is said to be considering his future now that the transfer window is open.
The Red Devils’ poor results and performances in 2021/22 saw them miss out on Champions League qualification and that has left Cristiano Ronaldo looking for an exit route.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has asked to be allowed to leave Manchester United if the Premier League club receive a satisfactory offer this transfer window,” The Times have reported through Duncan Castles.
His decision is motivated by his desire to play in the Champions League for what’s left of his career.
Ronaldo, 37, has 12 months remaining on the contract he signed when he rejoined United last summer from Juventus.
He scored 24 goals in all competitions last season, finishing as United’s top scorer, but was unable to help them qualify for the Champions League. A lack of Champions League football this coming season and wanting to fight for trophies is thought to be part of the reasoning behind his desire to leave.
Ten Hag has been preparing for Ronaldo’s presence in his team and emphasised the point at his unveiling, hence, this news will be a huge blow for him as the club will go into the season without a recognised striker with targets Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez moving to Man City and Liverpool respectively.
Although there is no official statement yet from Man Utd on this reports but it is believed Bayern Munich and Chelsea will be eyeing a deal for the veteran striker with the blues loaning Lukaku back to Inter Milan and Lewandowski seeking a move away from Bayern Munich.
