BREAKING: Man United have approach for Benjamin Pavard

Manchester United have reportedly had a surprise bid for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard rejected.

France international Pavard predominantly plays at right-back but his versatility has seen him fill in across the back line for Bayern in recent seasons.

The 26-year-old was being targeted as competition for both Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well as United’s current crop of centre-backs as boss Erik ten Hag continues to rebuild his squad.

The German giants have, however, turned down the advances of the Red Devils after they approached Bayern about a potential deal, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

The same report suggests Pavard, who has attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Juventus and Atletico Madrid this summer, decided that he would stay with the Bundesliga side several weeks ago – despite initially being open to move away.

It had been previously reported earlier in the summer that Bayern were open to the sale of Pavard for a fee of around £30million with the defender keen to take on a more notable role as a centre-back rather than a right-back.

The Bundesliga champions and the players have now changed their minds with Pavard keen to remain at the Allianz Arena.

Pavard has made 35 appearances for Bayern in all competitions last season and has been playing for the German giants since 2019, when he joined from Stuttgart in a £30m deal.

The 2018 World Cup winner has featured in all three of Bayern’s league fixtures so far this campaign.
