Ange Postecoglou has commended the significant influence Mauricio Pochettino had on Tottenham as Chelsea’s manager readies to visit his former team on Monday evening.
Pochettino led Spurs for more than five years from 2014 to 2019, achieving a second-place finish in the Premier League and reaching the Champions League final.
The current Tottenham boss acknowledges that Pochettino’s contributions are still highly regarded in North London, despite the likelihood of a less than friendly welcome at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Postecoglou stated, “Mauricio undoubtedly made a tremendous impact on this football club. He came very close to achieving great success in the Champions League and the league, which speaks for his undeniable contributions.”
“We all hold immense respect for Mauricio at this football club, including the fans and everyone associated with it. However, we won’t be giving him a guard of honor on Monday night because our main focus is on winning.”
“I believe he might not have anticipated it, but his time here and the influence he had are undeniable and will be remembered for a long time.”
Postecoglou’s beginning at Spurs has been more successful than Pochettino’s at Chelsea. Pochettino’s Chelsea has only earned 12 points in 10 games and currently stands 11th in the Premier League.
On the other hand, Tottenham is leading the league with eight wins and two draws. The Tottenham boss believes that Chelsea will also improve in due time.
He stated, “You can’t fully understand the challenges until you experience them firsthand.”
The challenges I face and what Mauricio faces may be quite different, but our core goal is the same: to create a winning team. When you consider Mauricio’s past achievements, I have full confidence that he’ll lead Chelsea in the right direction.
