Aston Villa closed in on fourth-placed Tottenham with their 13th consecutive home win in the Premier League, defeating Fulham 3-1.
Despite a slow start, Unai Emery’s team secured the lead with an own goal from Antonee Robinson. Captain John McGinn extended the advantage just before halftime, and Ollie Watkins sealed the victory in the 64th minute.
Raul Jimenez pulled one back for Fulham, but Villa secured their eighth win of the season, positioning them one point behind Spurs.
For Fulham, struggling with one win in their last seven games, the match showcased Aston Villa’s energetic start. Despite early frustration and a disallowed penalty, Villa broke through as Tielemans’ delivery led to Robinson’s own goal.
McGinn added a second, and Watkins scored the third. Fulham showed resilience, with Jimenez hitting the target, but Villa’s lead remained intact.
Notably, Ollie Watkins has been involved in 26 Premier League goals in 2023,
while McGinn is having a prolific season with eight goal involvements.
On the other hand, Robinson’s two own goals mark a unique stat for Fulham.
Jimenez’s goal, ending a 33-game drought, was a positive note for the visitors.
Looking ahead, Aston Villa faces Tottenham after the international break,
while Fulham hosts Wolves on Monday, November 27.
Overall, Villa’s impressive form under Emery, positions them as strong contenders for a top-five finish in the Champions League race.
