Liverpool remains determined to secure a deal for PSG star Kylian Mbappe, despite tough competition from Real Madrid. Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, a long-time admirer of Mbappe, has maintained contact with both the player and PSG regarding his future.
Mbappe’s current contract with PSG extends until 2024, with an additional year option. However, his refusal to activate this option indicates his desire to explore other opportunities in the near future. L’Equipe reports that Mbappe is carefully considering his options before making a crucial decision for his career.
While Real Madrid is also pursuing Mbappe, Liverpool has not given up on their pursuit. They have maintained contact with Mbappe’s team since his move to PSG from Monaco in 2017.
L’Equipe highlights that Klopp even met with Mbappe in 2017 while he was at Monaco, and Liverpool has always believed in the possibility of signing him.
The report suggests that while seeing Mbappe in a Liverpool shirt would be surprising, it should not be ruled out. Additionally, there is confidence within the club that a financial agreement reached between the player and the president in August will protect Liverpool from a free departure without compensation.
PSG is unlikely to want to lose Mbappe on a free transfer, so a significant update is expected in the coming year when clubs outside of France can negotiate pre-contracts with the player.
Liverpool sees Mbappe as an ideal replacement for Mo Salah, who has been linked to a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League.
