Zinedine Zidane, the former manager of Real Madrid, may make a managerial comeback in 2023, but he will not be taking the France position.
After France lost the 2022 World Cup final, Zidane was expected to succeed Didier Deschamps at the start of 2023.
As Deschamps and France departed Qatar empty handed, Lionel Messi led Argentina to their first global championship since 1986 and his first with La Albiceleste.
Deschamps will remain in his position until 2026, the FFF has affirmed, despite rumours that they intended to let him go.
The move ends speculation that Zidane will be in charge of Les Bleus at Euro 2024.
However, the controversy over the situation took another turn as FFF president Noël Le Graet dismissed rumors that Zidane would replace Deschamps in a controversial interview.
“Zidane to Brazil? I don’t care. He does what he wants, it’s not my job. I never met him and never considered parting with Didier,” RMC Sport said.
La Graet’s remarks have not been well received by France fans with current talisman Kylian Mbappe backing Zidane following the interview.
French outlet L’Equipe claim Zidane has already turned down the chance to take over from Gregg Berhalter, in charge of the US national side, alongside previous offers from Portugal and Brazil.
Zidane is still open to managing France but his chance could now be over three years away
