Nani has urged the struggling Manchester United team to display more determination.
Under Erik ten Hag’s leadership, they suffered a second 3-0 home defeat in just four days, exiting the Carabao Cup against Newcastle in the fourth round.
This disappointing result came after a loss to Manchester City, leaving United in eighth place in the Premier League.
This season, the team has faced a total of 15 matches and lost eight of them.
Nani, reflecting on his time at the club, emphasized that Manchester United used to be known for their mental strength.
Even when they were 3-0 down with just a few minutes left, the team would fight to push the ball into the goal, focusing on what was necessary rather than just talent.
“When you watch Manchester play nowadays, you can spot plenty of skilled players with excellent technique.
However, what’s missing is that fighting spirit, the willingness to sacrifice for the team. To be a true star at Manchester, a player must have the ability to unlock the game; otherwise, it won’t be successful.”
At the age of 36, Nani currently plays for Adana Demirspor in the Turkish Lig. He has previously played in various countries, including Australia, Italy, the United States, and his home country, Portugal, where he represented Sporting.
Nani has supported his former teammate, Bruno Fernandes, who became Manchester United’s captain in July, despite facing strong criticism.
Nani defended Fernandes, emphasizing his dedication and hard work on the field, praising his contributions to the team.
Nani pointed out that while there are other talented players in Manchester, Fernandes stands out for his commitment and effort in each game, which many others may not match.
This season, Manchester United has suffered five losses at Old Trafford, a stark contrast to their performance last season when they only lost two games at home. This change is concerning.
